# WORK | Internal

Raw Nerve works on a number of internal projects, which are a means for futhering research and development skills, as well as finding an outlet for creative concepts. Many of these projects evolve from the group's interests in interactivity and the bringing together of communities (online and offline).

Raw Nerve has designed and curated an exhibition in partnership with Creative Lewisham Agency and London Design Festival. The Deptford Design Market Challenge brings together an eclectic mix of 27 top designers for an inventive and provocative project. The designers, who include Conran and Partners, Stuart Haygarth, Martí Guixé, and Based Upon, have each been asked to pick a second-hand object – a paint box, a guitar, a basket of toy soldiers – bought from Deptford Market. Their task is to challenge preconceptions of usefulness and beauty, using their talents to re-work the item, creating something unique, desirable and functional. The re-designed items, now transformed from humble bargains to design icons, will be displayed at the newly refurbished Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall, running from 15th – 25th September 2007, 10am-11pm. Admission is free and open to everyone.

RSVP London, a social networking initiative by the team at Raw Nerve, is a showcase for creative talents that enables interconnectivity between businesses, individuals and organisations. The project was launched in the Deptford, Greenwich and Lewisham Hub area in 2005 as a series of quarterly networking events bringing together a diverse range of creative industries in informal and relaxed settings.

The new website is a fully functioning resource with features that include a fully searchable creative services directory, media galleries and a community blog where members can publish information about exhibition, events and services,

The tools for music production and audio mixing are becoming more affordable and accessible, while the range of equipment is constantly expanding and evolving with demand. DJs now have the opportunity to mix with Vinyl Turntables, CD Mixers, MP3 players, Samplers and Laptops.

The Players Association is an initiative conceived and developed by the team at Raw Nerve. The online resource allows established and emerging DJs alike to upload and share mixes for free and gain international exposure to music lovers from around the globe. The site is among the first DJ portals to offer an integrated search engine, enabling the user to search for musical genres as well as individual tracks by artist or song name.

There is no other DJ Mix website on the market that offers this combination of resources.

Dirk Waldik, the technical lead on the project, was one of the developers responsible for Audioscrobbler, a powerful community mapping tool behind the popular internet radio site Last.FM. The Audioscrobbler system is a database that tracks listening habits and calculates relationships and recommendations based on the music people listen to.

'Life Is Suite' is a sofa discovered in the back streets of Deptford. It has been re-upholstered so that imprinted on it, like a memory, are all the imagined stories of its life so far. To read the stories the sofa has to be explored and interacted with, lifting cushions to reveal tales and listening to sounds coming from deep within, which unravel the intimate secrets of its past.

'Life Is Suite' is currently being exhibited at Cherry Picked, in Royal Exchange (see the Cherry Picked link below).

Now in its third year, the Deptford Design Festival has become a firm local fixture, linking Deptford to the London-wide London Design Festival. In 2005 Deptford based companies decided to create a book that responds to the question 'What's So Great About SE8'. Raw Nerve contributed an illustrated fantasy map of area, which reveals all the weird and wonderful things that which make it such a unique place. We have had a lot of interested people wanting to buy a copy, please contact us for more information.
